Prayers for Strength

Simple Buddhist prayers for strength — not to become harder, but to stay open when life is difficult.

In Buddhism, strength is not about becoming harder. It is about staying open when everything in you wants to shut down.

The prayer is not for life to stop being difficult. It is for the capacity to meet difficulty without breaking — or without needing to.

Here are three simple prayers for strength.

For yourself:

May I find the courage to face what is here. May I be stronger than my fear, even by one breath. May I remember that I have carried hard things before.

For someone you love:

May you find what you need to keep going. May strength rise in you when you feel it has gone. May you know that others are holding you, even from a distance.

For all beings:

May all beings find the will to continue. May all who are worn down be quietly renewed. May strength flow to wherever it is needed most.

Strength rarely arrives all at once. Most of the time it shows up as one small next step.

Take that step. Then take the next one.
