Prayers for Sleep
Simple Buddhist prayers for sleep — for releasing the day and letting the mind finally rest.
Sleep asks one thing of us — to let go.
Not of everything forever. Just of today. Just for now.
In Buddhism, the act of lying down to rest is itself a small practice in surrender. These prayers are for the moments when the mind won’t stop, and the body is begging to be still.
Here are three simple prayers for sleep.
For yourself:
May I release this day with gratitude. May my mind grow quiet and my body grow heavy. May I rest deeply and wake renewed.
For someone you love:
May sleep come to you easily tonight. May your mind set down what it has been carrying. May you wake tomorrow feeling held.
For all beings:
May all beings find rest tonight. May all who are restless find stillness. May sleep bring peace to a tired world.
You have done enough today. You have been enough today.
Now rest.
