Prayers for Music
Simple Buddhist prayers for music — for the moments when a song reaches somewhere words cannot.
Music is one of the oldest forms of prayer. Long before words, there was sound.
In Buddhism, music is understood as a path to presence — a way the mind can stop wandering and simply listen. These prayers are for those moments when a song moves you somewhere deeper than thought.
Here are three simple prayers for music.
For yourself:
May I let music move through me freely. May I listen without holding back. May sound be a doorway to stillness.
For someone you love:
May music find you when words cannot. May every song that moves you be a small homecoming. May you always have music when you need it most.
For all beings:
May all beings have beauty to listen to. May sound carry comfort to those in pain. May music remind us all that we are not separate.
The next time a song stops you in your tracks — that is the prayer answering itself.
Just listen. That is enough.
